Newsfire doesn’t work anymore [solved]

Despite it’s no more updated, I love Newsfire : It fits perfectly my needs to read news on my Mac.

It once started to crash at launch. But after it has worked again without I was able to explain.

Recently it started again to crash at launch and after few days I was still unable to use it. As I say at the beginning I’m very keen of it. So I was sad to not be able to read my all beloved news.

From the fact that at the same time I’ve upgraded to El Capitan, I thought it was no more compatible with OSX 10.11.

But after investigation I’ve found that one of the site I was following was on maintenance and requested a login/password (like website with .htaccess file does).

The solution was:

  1. to go offline (in my case by switching off the wifi),
  2. to launch Newsfire (which is no more able to update its feeds),
  3. to set a long news update period (by default it’s 20 minutes; I set 1 day),
  4. then to refresh one by one each newsfeed to detect the faulty one,
  5. to check online it the website indeed requests a login/password,
  6. to remove the faulty feed.

And now it works again 🙂
